Dave

An independent mind.
A world of possibilities.

ETHIOPIAN ROOTS. OPEN HORIZONS.A PERSONAL PORTFOLIO / VOL. 02
DESIGNER. BUILDER. CURIOUS HUMAN.

Some questions
are better built.

I’m Dave. I build things that make
big ideas feel a little closer.

Less looking.
More discovering.

I’m drawn to the things we don’t quite understand.
Then I build a way to get a little closer.

LEARNING THROUGH DOING

Go on.
Follow that hunch.

Change gravity. Bend a ray of light. Follow a wave. Liq is a science atlas with 32 investigations you can actually get your hands on.

Built for the moment when “I don’t get it” becomes “wait, let me try something.”

MAKING CONNECTIONS VISIBLE

A distant star.
A very close connection.

What happens on the Sun doesn’t stay on the Sun. Helen connects solar imagery, space-weather measurements, and our own planet in one place to investigate.

For looking up, zooming in, and finding the thread between the two.

A THREAD FROM HOME

New ideas.
Deep roots.

A mesob is made one strand at a time. A small gesture, repeated with care, becomes something that brings people together.

I wanted a piece of that feeling here. So I reimagined its woven form as a living digital object. Familiar roots. A different kind of material.

02 / THE PERSON, NOT JUST THE PIXELS

A few things
about Dave.

Dawit Gezahegn Wondimagegn

I like the moment when something complicated starts to make sense. A small discovery. A good question. An interaction that just clicks.

That’s what I look for in my work. I move between design and code because the way something looks and the way it works should grow together.

Ethiopia is part of how I see the world. Curiosity is how I keep finding more of it.

01 / A CLEAR WAY IN

Make room for curiosity.

Give someone a starting point.
Then leave a little room to wander.

02 / CARE IN THE DETAILS

Get the small things right.

The response. The rhythm. The last few pixels.
People feel the difference.

03 / SOMETHING TO TAKE AWAY

Leave a good impression.

A new idea. A useful discovery.
Something that stays with you.

03 / THE NEXT GOOD THINGIT COULD START WITH A HELLO.
Have a thought?
Reach out.

Something ambitious, something useful,
or something no one’s quite figured out yet.

THE COLOPHON

Every thread counts.

Original portfolio, project work, and digital sculpture by Dawit Gezahegn Wondimagegn.

The living mesob and the stepped woven mark are original interpretations inspired by Ethiopian basket weaving. They are contemporary digital studies, not replicas of a particular historic object.

Set in Space Grotesk, Manrope, and IBM Plex Mono, under the SIL Open Font License. 3D built with Three.js. Liq and Helen screenshots show their light themes. Underlying scientific imagery and map data retain their providers’ terms.

Optional soundtrack: “Ayewalew” — Dave Ahadu / AHADU. © 2020 Ahadu. The miniature musician is an original stylized tribute, not a photographic likeness or endorsement. A personal source of inspiration. The opening 21 seconds are presented from a user-supplied audio file, with a gradual fade. The original artist upload is linked.
